"Fitness Play"
We have an epidemic in this country of child obesity that threatens our very existence and even our national security. According the U.S. Surgeon General, "The prevalence of overweight adolescents 12-19 has nearly tripled in the past two decades." This is NOT acceptable, and I want to do something about it! I have put together a program for training overweight and obese children that I call "Fitness Play" that has even been successful with adults. My program is NOT sport training or traditional physical education--Fitness Play is based on lifetime activities and movements that are not only productive for building healthy young bodies but fun! I have had excellent results with the initial training of overweight and obese children. When competition and traditional sports are removed, and unfit children are finally given a chance to be successful with movement and exercise--they excel and enjoy the experience! I have used my background in sport, exercise, and behavior change psychology, corporate wellness coaching, personal training, and my background as a professionally credentialed teacher in PE and Health Science to create a program of success for children--no matter what the weight or current fitness level. This program for success is Fitness Play. If you are frustrated with traditional activity programs than only emphasize competitiveness for athletic children instead of a lifetime of enjoying movement, (or even worse NO program at all!) or youth sports that burn out kids and discourage "life long" physical activity, then Fitness Play can be your solution. I know it works--I've seen the fitness fire in the eyes of morbidly obese children when they participate in a properly structured exercise setting with proper attention to psychological and social issues. Fitness Play is a one-hour training session that can be conducted at the local park, bike path/green belt area, or your home. Each session starts with a "mini nutrition lesson" and ALL sessions are instructed from a philosophy of lifetime Wellness. While fitness based, fitness alone is never enough to combat obesity. Children will learn how to eat better while also feeling their bodies successful in actual movement through the playful enjoyment of carefully constructed activities. Children will be safely taught how to train for strength, cardiovascular endurance, balance, agility, posture, and flexibility to improve their lives through a lifetime of healthy movement.
"You can discover more about a person in an hour of play
than in a year of conversation." Wanna play? I'll welcome your interest in giving your overweight or obese child a chance for success through health in my Fitness Play Program. It sure beats diabetes, heart disease, and other serious issues related to obesity and lack of physical fitness--and it's cheaper too! If you have children that are not overweight but would like them to learn about health through movement and Wellness education I'd be happy to work with them because anyone can Fitness Play--even adults!
