Archive Extra Credit Assignments
(No longer available)

Weeks #12+:

  • You may do up to three (5) extra credit reports on health news.  The sources can be from newspaper, internet, TV, magazines, etc. Make sure to list your sources. Follow handout template guidelines. Complete the form by hand but make sure I can read it!

  • You can also do a fourth extra credit report on the World AIDS Day quilt display if desired.  Just use the same extra credit report form above.

  • If you want to do a fifth report on our Food Presentations/Exam #4 you may do so.  Write a 1-2 paragraph reflection paper on what you thought and what you learned during this interactive activity.

Final Exam Night:

  • I will be teaching an interactive group exercise class in the dance room in gym building the evening of the exam. I'll teach you how to get a good workout with your body weight, a towel, and partners plus we'll have a lot of fun. I'll bring in some good music and some of my functional training equipment. We'll spend one hour on the exercise class.  Don't worry about it being too hard--I'll make sure it is fun and that everyone can enjoy the experience.

Week #8:

  • Review Weight Room & Fitness Terms for extra credit next Monday.  I'll give you a chance to do the terms right after our quiz for some extra credit on 10-27-03.

  • You have the option of doing a "5 day" Nutrition journal instead of the minimum required 3 day journal.  You amount of extra credit will depend upon the quality of your work.  The 5-Day version is still due on 10-27-03.

  • Write at least a one paragraph (five sentences) review of "one" item discussed last night during the Today's News! section of class.  Make sure to pick something different than you turned in last night for extra credit.  For example, if you turned in farm workers being sprayed by pesticide which we actually discussed last night then pick a different topic for this next extra credit assignment.

    • We discussed at least six different topics--maybe more.  Tell me about what was discussed then offer your own personal opinion of this news.  What did you think about it?  Your opinion will depend a lot on what item you choose to discuss because some of the topics were kind of funny while some were very serious and cutting edge health science.  Turn this in as you enter class next Monday on 10-27-03.

Week #7:

  • There will be two opportunities to earn extra credit on the exam.  Know the Stages of Change and the recently demonstrated equipment and exercises.  I will also have a couple of little things you can do next week that I'll announce in class or maybe even later this week--but at least by next Monday.

Week #6:

  • No new extra credit this week.  We'll probably have something for next week so stay tuned...it will be on-line for those that are interested enough to look.

Week #5:

  • No new extra credit this week.

WEEK #4:

  • No new extra credit this week.  On last week, if your book did not have the section on ADHD, follow the directions in class so you can also do this assignment.  Write a short reflective paragraph on health disparity.  Example: Come up with a solution for reducing health disparity between ethnicities.

WEEK #3:

  • There is a great example of disparity on page 53 in the ADHD section (right column).  For extra credit, explain the disparity in a couple of sentences and give it to me as you walk in the door before the others ask questions about it.

WEEKS #1-2:

  • Expect a short extra credit assignment right after the quiz on ACEs, Stages of Change and Wellness.  Know the four basic components of Wellness and be ready to discuss the "six" areas of Wellness according to the text!  If you paid attention and took a few notes this should be pretty easy for you.

All handouts are in a PDF format.  Adobe Acrobat Reader is needed to view (PDF) Files.
