Homework Week #9
Week #9:
(10-27-03) Read #12. Finish either 3 day or 5 day Nutrition Journal as
directed and turn in Monday.
-
Nutrition
Journal: Follow directions given in class for best grade. You
will not be graded on how healthy you eat! You will be graded on how
complete your journal is and how you followed directions plus how helpful
your comments are to your group members.
-
One day of the Nutrition Journal
must be a weekend. Two days must be weekdays. For example,
Thursday, Friday, and Saturday or Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. Do the
journal on consecutive days--this means do not skips days. Once you start go
all the way to the end of 3 or 5 days.
This assignment will be due Week #9 on 10/27/03.
-
Journal Tips:
Carry the journal with you and enter as soon as possible after
eating! Do not wait until the end of the day--you'll never remember
everything. Incomplete journals or journals with poor effort will not
earn a good grade. Give details! For example, what kind of
portion size did you eat? Was it whole milk, 2%, 1%, or non-fat? Did you fry
your chicken or BBQ? Did you eat the mondo candy bar or the small
snack size? All of this information is extremely important to know
when evaluating and learning from your nutrition journal.
-
These are areas that will be
important when evaluating your journal. I will not grade you on how
healthy or unhealthy you are eating! I will grade you on following
directions and doing a complete nutrition journal. If you do it
right--it can change the way you think about eating forever and
significantly impact your health for decades to come. Here are some
pointers:
-
Things I'll be looking for:
5-a-Day, fiber, portion sizes, meal times/spacing between meals, junk food
(processed, high fat, high calorie), balance/variety/moderation, fad diets.
From this information we will assess then discuss behavior change and SMART
Goals for facilitating better nutrition choices.
-
Download Nutrition
Journal Form (PDF) Print 3-5 forms--one for "each
day" of your journal.
-
Read #12. We will begin #11
next week. These two chapters will be "one" exam--they go together.
-
Review Muscles Handout for Quiz #4
on Monday.
-
Review Weight Room & Fitness Terms
for extra credit next Monday.
-
Review Exercise materials (text,
class handouts, class discussions, special in-class presentations, etc.) for
Exam #3 to be given on 11-3-03.
