Road Trip! Off Broadway
Shoes
With a little work, it's possible to find a "foot-friendly" pair of shoes. What is foot friendly? You want shoes that allow your foot to function like it is bare. To get this barefoot feeling, shoes should do two things--bend in the middle arch (not just the toe box) and twist diagonally across the arch. If they are this flexible then your feet will like them. Stiff and rigid shoes are not good for your feet! Bending and twisting dozens of shoes until you find a few that pass the test can be far too much work in a traditional store where you have to wait on the salesperson to bring you shoes, so I'd like to offer my personal solution to finding foot-friendly shoes at reasonable prices really FAST! My personal favorite shoe store in SoCal is Off Broadway in Hollywood off Sunset Boulevard right across from Hollywood High School. This store is cavernous! I've never seen so many shoes in one place! It's a self service shoe store which is great when shopping for "foot-friendly" shoes because you have to really have to apply the "Bend & Twist" test to each shoe--if they fail the test, you quickly move on. If they pass, it's worth finding the box with your size below the display shelf and trying them on. Waiting for a salesperson to bring you all these shoes would be too slow, so the best way is self service like at this store. I guarantee you can find at least a few pairs of foot-friendly shoes here for far less money! Many of the shoes are discounted 30% or more--plus they have some cool models that are hard to find in mall outlets. The Hollywood location does NOT have youth sizes, but some of the other stores do carry shoes for kids. They have a nice selection of socks and shoe care supplies plus some handbags for the ladies.
