Paul Bambrook
Paul Bambrook grew up on a farm in Iowa. The only running he did was around the farm and playing baseball. As an adult, he played baseball, softball, golf, and eventually learned to play a little tennis later in life. After retiring from the sheet metal business, Paul started participating in the Senior Olympics and found as a senior that he had natural abilities he never realized in his youth. He is now very competitive in the 50, 100, and 200 meter dashes as well as the long jump, high jump, and triple jump. He has won over 50 Senior Track gold medals and even two silver medals at the National Senior Olympics in the long jump! What a dude! Paul likes to encourage other seniors to be active and "Get Moving!" by setting a personal example. He still plays softball with the Silver Streakers and in his "spare time" plays golf and tennis. He is now in the 75-79 age group and has recently competed in Boston, Decatur, IL plus other regional meets and is currently ranked by National Masters Track & Field as 1st in the long jump and triple jump, 5th in the 100m, and 10th in the 200m.
Paul was in my morning Shape Up Class at BC. Here's how to summarize Paul Bambrook--one semester we decided to play some pick up basketball. There were about six guys in their early twenties, myself at 42, and Paul at 70. If there was any doubt about Paul's ability to "hang with the boys" it was quickly negated after I found myself grappling with Paul on the floor over a loose ball. Shortly thereafter Paul "busted a move" on me and faked me out. Then after the game he confided "That's the first time I've played on organized game of basketball in 50 years. Guess I did okay." Yeah--I guess so Paul! You kicked my butt a couple of times! Moral of
